Hello, world!
Note
This is the first post in a planned series of weeknotes in 2026.
I am in pursuit of a sustainable format for this site so expect some experimentation at first. I am optimizing for getting something out the door without as much length or time spent editing as when I write elsewhere. This is not about filler: less is more.
TIL about the U. S. National Ice Center, a really interesting resource for news about icebergs. The 2019 Navigating Along Iceberg A68A Aboard HANSEATIC nature video shows how absolutely massive icebergs can get (that one was more than 100 miles long and 30 miles wide) and goes a long way to explaining why thereβs an organization dedicated to tracking and reporting on icebergs.
π Cool Bookmarks
One of the coolest things about my public bookmarking is that I can easily take a look at the bookmarks from just the last week as I assemble weeknotes. These are the links from this week that stood out:
- A small collection of text-only websites
- The People Pledge
- The Year in Cheer: 97 ways the world got better in 2025
Itβs never to soon to start thinking about annual reflections β IMO. A few open-source tools that make it easy to generate stats about weekly, monthly or yearly usage:
- AntennaPod β Android podcast app
- Pano Scrobbler β cross-platform music scrobbler
- XTools β stats tools for Wikimedia wikis, users, pages, et cetera.
π This Week
The subreddit of the week is r/MedievalCats.
The phrase of the week is βAfter us the delugeβ. The origin of the phrase has βlet them eat cakeβ roots; learn more on Wikipedia.
πΈ Iβve started posting photos on gram.social, a PixelFed instance that I like.
π See you next week!
