Hello world!

I completed a walking half-marathon this Sunday. The title of this weekโ€™s note is in honor of that effort.

๐Ÿ”– My Favorite Stuff from the Internet This Week

  • Based on a quick look at the demo, this looks pretty neat.

๐ŸŒฑ Gardening

The temperature has been hovering just above freezing. The hardiest among my sunflowers have survived. The impact has been felt in the germination rate.

๐ŸŽฅ Movies

With the first third of the year complete, I am on track to meet my โ€œ26 movies in 2026โ€ goal. I turned Marty Supreme on out of curiosity and respect for some of the other A24 films Iโ€™ve seen.

๐Ÿ™Œ The list at brie.dev/books is up-to-date. I went back and rated every book read in 2026. Iโ€™ll continue back-filling ratings. See Hardcover for my ratings.

I keep track of my reading in various places across the Internet. I track every book I read as @bbrie on Hardcover and as brie on Rambling Readers. I also track each IRL Book Club pick.

My commitment to biking in cold and rainy weather was rewarded with a very lovely time on Montour. I rode 10 miles Tuesday morning and didnโ€™t see another person.

๐ŸŽ–๏ธ I pushed through some ninth mile cramps to finish the half-marathon at the Pittsburgh Marathon on Sunday. This was my third time participating in this event. I didnโ€™t set any PRs but I had a very wonderful time exploring Pittsburgh. The energy of all the people who come out and cheer is so motivating!

๐Ÿคญ The on-foot/by-bike percentages favor on-foot activities more than they have since I started tracking.

๐Ÿ“ฏ Social

Most of my social media activity happens on Mastodon.

I posted on Mastodon this week about my mini backpack and how much I love the collection of pins and patches that Iโ€™ve assembled.

Plop

  • ๐Ÿ˜บ๐Ÿชž๐Ÿ˜บ Plop and his reflection
    • I posted the photo at the top of this blog post with lyrics from Michael Jacksonโ€™s โ€œMan in the Mirrorโ€.
  • ๐Ÿ Donโ€™t click on me
    • I took advantage of the migration to glitch-soc by using Markdown when writing this post for Plop.
  • ๐Ÿคญ I posted a not-great photo of Coraopolis Carl on the porch from Plopโ€™s vantage.

Thanks!
